Travis Butch Eugene Weatherly

Travis ‘Butch’ Eugene Weatherly Jr, 76, of Walnut, MS, passed away on April 12, 2023, surrounded by family and nurses while his doctor sang one of his favorite hymn Amazing Grace. Butch was born on November 30, 1946, to Travis (Gene) Sr. and Charlene Luna Weatherly of Benton County, MS. Butch was a Veteran, serving in the Vietnam War from June 1969 – December 1970. He was a highly decorated Veteran receiving a purple heart and a silver star, just to name a few. Butch proudly wore his Veteran hat when he was out and glowed with pride when he was thanked for his service. Early in life, Butch met Kay Lynn Street, and they have been married for 53 years. After returning home from the war they made their home in Walnut, MS – where Butch worked and retired from Dover Elevators as an electrician. Butch will be greatly missed by his wife Kay, daughters Holly Hicks (Jeff) & Allison. Grandchildren: Trav, Mazy, Kirk, Addy, and Grant. Siblings - Debbie Beavers (sister & baker of his favorite carrot cake), Tim Weatherly (Diane) (better known as Timmy the baby brother), Benny Weatherly (Valeria) (partner in most childhood mischief). Butch had the biggest heart and the best crooked smile. He could be found most days in his shop, woodworking making walking sticks or fixing a lawn mower. Most people’s favorite time to see Butch was when it was muscadine season around The Weatherly shop. Butch was one the founding member of our Three Forks Fire Department. Daddy and mother’s favorite past time was going out to eat. Whether it be to River Heights when we were younger or to Perkins’ for a Big Boy Breakfast. Butch was very serious but also very witty and fun. He was fearless and independent, yet sensitive and incredibly compassionate. He was strong-willed and stubborn, and those traits he instilled into his daughters. It was a part of who he was, and his strength undoubtedly helped him deal with life’s challenges. Daddy was a strong fighter here on earth, but we know that he is free from pain and can see and hear all the sights and sounds that Heaven has to offer. “Seeing death as the end of life is like seeing the horizon as the end of the ocean." Pallbearers: Mazy Mills, Jeff Hicks, Tony Weatherly, Kyle Weatherly, Frank Hines, Mitch Carroll. Honorary Pallbearers: Mike DeVore, Willie Sanders, Pat Hodum, Billy Barnes, Grant Hicks, Kirk Jones, Trav Weatherly, Addy Hicks. Officiating will be: Bro. Robert Muse and Bro. Don Wilson. Memorial contributions may be made to Oakland Baptist Church building fund or The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall, in lieu of flowers.
