Rev. JC Landreth Murphree

Brother Murphree was born June 16, 1929, in Bruce, Mississippi. He is survived by his wife Margaret Sudduth Higgason Murphree, his daughter Brenda Stepp (Garry), and children Robert Young (Suzy), David Wilkerson (Donna), Steve Wilkerson (Tammy), Robin McDonald (Joe), Wesley Higgason (Machè), and Mark Higgason (Brandy). He has two granddaughters: Liesl Mote (Greg) and Marla Kennedy (Cory) and 14 other grandchildren: Rob Young (Melinda), Cody Wilkerson, Cole Wilkerson (Leigh), Cade Wilkerson (Amanda), Chase Wilkerson (Mary Margaret), Carly Wilkerson (Scott), Claire Wilkerson (Kyle), Justin Kirk (Megan), Jake McDonald (Katie), Will Higgason, Brandon Higgason, Jonah Higgason, Jarod McDonald, and Gabby Higgason. Brother Murphree also leaves behind great grandchildren: Stefan Carter, Lauren Richardson, Walt Carter, Dalton Kennedy, Grayden Kirk, Saylor Kirk, Archie McDonald, and Lucy Daniel Wilkerson. He has one great-great granddaughter, Ella Richardson. Brother Murphree was proceeded in death by his wife Mildred Murphree, his parents Jesse Cleve and Etta Murphree, his brothers Curt Murphree and Jack Murphree, and a sister Elvie Brown. Brother Murphree went by several names, Daddy, Pops, Murph, Granddaddy, and Brother Landreth. He loved spending time outside where he worshipped his creator by planting, harvesting, observing nature, fishing, hunting, and enjoying peaceful nights with his loved ones. He had a voice and a laugh that his grandchildren found welcoming, safe, loving, and infectious. Never one to sit still for very long, Brother Murphree instilled a deep work ethic in his children as he worked long hours. He equally modeled the ability to have fun as he joked, teased, and played with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Above all, Brother Murphree loved Jesus and strove to love his family, friends, and others with that love. He pointed many to the arms of God and discipled them into spiritual growth as he continually grew in his relationship with our Lord himself. Brother Murphree has by now heard, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” He has entered his rest.
