Bobby Guyton Horton

Bobby Guyton Horton, 92, of Tiplersville, Mississippi, passed away at his home on December 10, 2024. He was born on July 20, 1932, to Guyton and Dott Skinner Horton in Tiplersville, Mississippi. A faithful member of Providence Baptist Church, Bobby had a deep love for the Providence Community throughout his life and loved to talk about the community and family history. He attended Providence School and later graduated from Chalybeate High School in 1950. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Munich, Germany. His greatest joys in life were his family and his farm. At the age of 12, Bobby brought in his first crop due to family illness, and he continued to raise crops and cattle throughout his life. He and wife, Hazel, also owned and operated a successful dairy farm for 40 years. In addition, Bobby was a dedicated member of the Tiplersville Water Association, serving on its board for 50 years. He was involved with the Tippah County Fair Association and chaired the dairy show for many years. In the Chalybeate and Walnut communities, Bobby was a familiar face at basketball games, the local ballpark, and in conversation with friends at his various meeting places over the years. Mr. Horton is survived by one son, Billy Montgomery: two daughters, Pat Eaton (Johnny), and Bobbye Nell Knight (Gene), all of Tiplersville, MS; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Natalie Horton Riley of Shannon, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 63 years, Hazel James Horton; two sons, Michael Montgomery and Donny Horton; one daughter-in-law, Cindy Horton; one brother, James Arnold Horton; and 3 sisters, Dorothy Edwards, Nellie Horton, and Jean Harrell. Pallbearers will be his grandsons: John Eaton, Colby Horton, Ben Knight, Michael Montgomery, Andy Horton, and Jonah Knight. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jimmy Harrison, Wayburn Ray, Herbert Hamilton, Larry Hopper, David Horton, Doug Horton, Jimmy Horton, Greg Harrell, Jeff Harrell, Scott Harrell, and John Riley.
