Rodger Dale Clifton

Rodger Dale Clifton passed away peacefully at his home in Walnut, MS, on October 17, 2025, at the age of 69. He was surrounded by family after a well-fought health battle. Dale was born to the late Mary Lillian Rutherford and Vance Lee Clifton on July 20, 1956, in Memphis, TN. Dale's primary education was in Ripley, MS. He worked most of his life in either the furniture or elevator industries, where he made numerous friends. Dale, also affectionately known as Goose by his softball buddies, enjoyed having fun in all aspects of life - both work and personal. Dale always kept a positive attitude, even through the most challenging times. He was a member of County Line Baptist Church. Dale was proudest of his family, and his lasting legacy is built upon his life as a husband, daddy, pawpaw, and avid Ole Miss Rebel fan. Dale is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Betty. Married in 1974, Dale and Betty celebrated their fifty-first wedding anniversary on October 12, 2025. In addition, Betty served as Dale's primary caregiver for many years later in life, and she was the best honorary nurse that he's ever had. Dale is also survived by two sons, Shannon Clifton of Walnut, MS, and Cody Clifton, of Savannah, GA; a sister Dian Young (Floyd) of Freeland, MI; a special friend: Tara Skinner of Walnut, MS; and a companion Rebel Clifton (French bulldog); and a host of nieces and nephews, including sharing special bonds with nieces Lou Ann Clifton Gonzalez and Tonya Settlemires. Grandchildren include Kelsey Bennett (Luke) of Walnut, MS, Amber Wilbanks (Cole) of Falkner, MS, and Patrick Clifton of Walnut, MS. Great-grandchildren include Abigail and Ellie Bennett and Cohen and Kenna Wilbanks. Bonus grandchildren include Addie and Wesley Jones. The family extends their most heartfelt gratitude to the community who supported Dale throughout his journey, his incredible healthcare providers, and their teams across the Mid-South, and Legacy Hospice of New Albany. Dale was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, David Clifton and Bobby Joe Clifton; one sister, Inez Brockwell; and his great-grandson Bentley Wilbanks. Officiated by Bro.
