Lillie Christine Horton

Lillie Christine Moore Horton was born February 16, 1920 to Sam and Mary Elizabeth Moore. She is preceded in death by her husband, David Horton. Lillie spent over a century as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She passed away July 29, 2024 in her home of more than 70 years. Lillie was a woman whose work ethic was apparent in every aspect of her life. She was committed whether working in the fields, milking cows, or out at dawn in her floppy hat working in her vegetable garden. When not working at these activities, she was cooking up 3 county meals a day. On Sundays, birthdays, and other special days, the table was overflowing, making sure everybody had their favorite vegetable and many times a choice between two meats. Lillie was not too keen on patients if there were tasks awaiting. It was constant prodding on “get to it”. She held those around her, including her two sons: David Jr. and Sam, to a high standard, aways leading by example in her own life. But if any of her family ever encountered tough times, she was the first to step in with understanding, love, and always honestly. Family was always the most important thing to Lillie. Her sons recall being chastised when they would not know their kin and she would tell them, "You should keep up with family." Every conversation had to include an update on grandkids and later great-grandkids. Along with every other job she took on, Lillie made sure to keep the threads of her family intact. She is survived by two sons: David Horton (Jane) of Tiplersville, MS, Sam Horton (Becky) of Greenwood, MS; one sister: Barbara Martin of Ripley, MS; numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces; one sister-in-law: Margaret Moore; her caretakers: Dicy Harman and Irene Rainey. She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four brothers: Robert Moore, Britt Moore, Samuel R. Moore, Fred Moore; three sisters: Hortense Johnson, Loraine Griffin, Marjorie Hopper. Officiating will be Bro. Don Wilson, Dr. Jack Bennett Pallbearers will be Joe Griffin, Chris Griffin, Bob Glover, John Johnson, Robert King, Matthew Horton. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.
