Edwina Smith

Edwina Bennett Smith passed away at the age of 83 on July 29, 2023, at The Lantern at Morning Point of Franklin in Franklin, TN. She was born May 20, 1940, to Marvin Bennett and Hermie Eubanks Bennett in Brownfield, MS. Edwina graduated as Valedictorian of her class from Walnut High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree from Blue Mountain College. She was a Teacher and a Business Owner of National Service Station and Oil Company with her husband James Otis Smith for 36 years and was a member of the Walnut Baptist Church. Edwina loved her community where she served as Alderwoman for the Town of Walnut. She was a devoted follower of Christ and was instrumental in establishing the North Tippah Bible Program. She served many years as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Teacher. She loved her church and adored her grandchildren who affectionately called her “Murner”. Edwina is survived by two sons: Alan Bennett Smith (Gina Lynn Rogers Smith) of Corinth, MS, Paul Jonathan Smith (Nathan Paul Slingluff) of Nashville, TN; one daughter: Allison Renee Smith Windham (Jerry Wayne Windham) of Ripley, MS; one sister-in-law: Judy Pennington Bennett of Dardenelle, AR; five grandchildren: Audriana Elizabeth Smith Guy (Jonathan) of Canyon Lake, TX, James Slater Rogers Smith (Abby) of Ridgeland, MS, Bennett Wayne Windham (Dr. Katie Lee) of Columbus, MS, Brad Thomas Windham (Taylor) of Pensacola, FL, Zoe Mikalia Windham Massengill (Taylor) of Jackson, MS; great-grandchildren: Rowdy Dutton Guy, Catherine Bennett Smith, Julia Bennett "Bea" Windham; Livia Renee Windham, baby Windham (due February, 2024), Eloise Lenore Windham, Edwina Marie Massengill. She is also survived by in-laws: Jerrie and Douglas Jackson of Chalybeate, MS; Carol and Travis Smith of Walnut, MS. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband: James Otis Smith; one brother: Dalton Norris Bennett, Dardenelle, AR; her in-laws: Marie Walker and Paul Mabry Smith; Nell Catherine and Joe Mancle McMillin all of Chalybeate, MS Pallbearers will be: Bennett Windham, Slater Smith, Brad Windham, Taylor Massengill, Jonathan Guy, Larry Joe McMilllin, David McMillin, Jim Jackson, Sean Smith, Scott Smith, Seth Smith, Stan Smith, Shane Meeks. Honorary Pallbearers are Travis Smith, Douglas Jackson, Mike Bennett. Officiating will be Bro. Ben Parman and Bro. Stacy McKee.
