Dr. Mack McElwain

Dr. Mack McElwain passed away on March 5, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital–Union County at the age of 78. He was born on April 1, 1947, to the late Lee McElwain and Icy Reed McElwain. Mack proudly served his country as a member of the United States Armed Forces. He was married to his beloved wife, Jane Cross McElwain, with whom he shared many cherished years. During his professional career, Mr. McElwain served as the Director of Psychiatric Services at North Mississippi State Hospital, where he devoted himself to helping others and providing compassionate care to those in need. His commitment to his field and to the well-being of others left a lasting impact on the many people whose lives he touched. Mack is preceded in death by his parents, Lee McElwain and Icy Reed McElwain, and his son-in-law, Allen Murphy. Mack is survived by his wife Jane Cross McElwain of Ripley, MS; his four daughers, Chimene McElwain of Denver, CO, Kerri Murphy of Ripley, MS, Karen Walden (Greg) of Falkner, MS, and Kristen Wiginton (Clay) of New Market, AL; one sister, Nelta M. Jamieson of Ripley, MS; his six grandchildren, Wesley Murphy (Sami) of Falkner, MS, Lacy Cranford (JT) of Walnut, MS, Jarrett Walden (Taylor) of Corinth, MS, Janna Walden of Starkville, MS, Tyler Wiginton of New Market, AL, and Connor Wiginton of New Market, AL; his two great-grandchildren, Harper Willard, and Westin James Murphy, both of Falkner, MS. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Geuteva Hospice, the ER doctors, and the ICU staff at Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany, MS.
