Betty Mauney

Betty Jean Cossitt Mauney of Ripley, MS, passed away on June 20, 2026, at the age of 90 at Tippah County Health and Rehab. She was born on January 23, 1936, to Oscar and Bertha Cossitt. She was married to Carl Dane Mauney for 53 years. Betty Jean spent the best years of her life enjoying the blessings of the hills and hollows of the Antioch Community. Due to vascular dementia, she spent the last 15 years at Tippah County Health and Rehab, where she was very loved and well cared for. She was called by many names: Sis, Mama, Ma Betty, Bet Jen, Bet Bet, and Bertha. She was also known for her love of animals and made it a point to take care of as many as she possibly could. She was a hard worker and had a high-spirited, outgoing personality, and was also an amazing cook. Her family has so many precious memories to remember her by. Betty Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Dane Mauney; her parents, Oscar and Bertha Cossitt; a grandson, Anthony Shaun Bryan; two brothers, Louis and Alfred Cossitt; and two sisters, Bama Cossitt and Hazel Morrow. She is survived by her three children, Hope Bryan (Wayne) of Ripley, MS, Connie Johnson (Danny) of Falkner, MS, and Mark Mauney of Corinth, MS; her six grandchildren, Zane Bryan (Abby), Cody Bryan (Kati), Canaan Dewberry (Ryan), Amber Diamante (Ethan), Annah Reynolds (Brandon), and Nick Mauney (Shayleigh); her 12 great-grandchildren, Bentley and Jaxon Bryan, Cayson Hall, Allie Hayas, Kylee Sullivan, Pryor Bryan, Isaac Dewberry, Silas and Titas Diamante, Wyatt Goolsby, Nila and Nova Reynolds; one brother, Boyce Shelton; one sister Loyce McNeal; one brother-in-law, TC Mauney; one sister-in-law, Barbara Huddleston; a host of nephews and nieces; and a special friend Don Bowling. The family would like to thank all the staff at Tippah County Health and Rehab for the love, care, and support they showed our mom, and also to all the staff at Gentiva Hospice for the comfort that was given during this challenging time.
